Walek on Broadway
Continuing a decades-long tradition, in 2011 Walek & Associates executives and guests joined

hundreds of journalists, PR pros and corporate executives on Broadway for the annual Financial

Follies, an evening of entertainment hosted by the New York Financial Writers' Association. The

Follies benefit the NYFWA Scholarship Fund, supporting students pursuing careers in business

and financial journalism.

Vice President Sophie Sophaon is joined by Nick Johnston of LGT Capital Partners, Alexis
Fosler and Jeb Altonaga of of Northern Trust at the 10th annual AsiaHedge Awards dinner in
Hong Kong, October 20, 2011.

Walek & Associates hosted "Sources Believed to be Reliable" reception and dinner in

conjunction with AIMA in London, September 20, 2011.

Account Executive Nelli Chowdhury with Vikas Bajaj at the SAJA Convention & Awards Gala

in New York City held in Columbia University on June 17, 2011.  Vikas Bajaj is a correspondent

for The New York Times in Mumbai, India, where he writes primarily about economic and

business issues.  He was previously based in New York and covered housing and financial

markets.

 

Publishers, authors, financial executives, media joined the Walek agency at the Landmarc

in the Time Warner Center for Walek's first "Bulls, bears, books... and cocktails" reception.

More than 50 people attended the event, which was held in conjunction with the Book Expo

of America and the Ira Sohn Conference on May 23, 2011.  The event featured four authors

with recent and upcoming books: Maneet Ahuja ("Alpha Masters"), Padma Desai ("From

Financial Crisis to Global Recovery"), Suzanne McGee ("Chasing Goldman Sachs") and

Edgar Peres ("Speed Traders").

Walek & Associates Vice President Stefan Prelog participated in the Children's Tumor

Foundation at the Koreatown Radisson Hotel in May 2011.  An avid poker player, Stefan

was sponsored by the firm as they raised money to encourage and support research

and the development of treatments and cures for neurofibromatosis.  He also finished

sixth at the annual Greenlight Poker Tournament in May 2011.

 

Clifford J. Levy and Ellen Barry from The New York Times were recognized as the recipients

of the 2010 Bob Considine Award at the Overseas Press Club's annual awards dinner for best

newspaper or news service interpretation of international affairs.  Their work examined corruption

and abuse of power in Russia two decades after the end of Communism.  The award is sponsored

by Walek & Associates.  Joe Kahn, deputy foreign editor of The New York Times accepted the

award on behalf of Clifford J. Levy and Ellen Barry, who were unable to come from Russia to

accept their awards.

Walek & Associates Principal Mary Beth Kissane, along with Account Executive Nelli Chowdhury,

attended the Institutional Investor 2011 All-American Executive Team-Leadership and Investor

Relations Awards in March 2011.  Speakers at this event, along with Mary Beth Kissane, were

Chris Eades, Clearbrige Advisors, Christian Garcia, Halliburton, Jennifer Failla, Highbridge Capital

Management LLC, Mark Urness, CLSA and Mark Aaron, Tiffany & Co.

 

Assistant Account Executive Michelle Lam marched in New York's 12th Annual Chinatown

Lunar New Year Parade & Festival in February 2011 to mark the arrival of the Year of the Rabbit.

Parishioners, community members and press representatives gathered at

Pleasantville’s Emanuel Lutheran Church on Sunday, October 24, 2010 to

dedicate new rooftop, power-generating solar panels. This largest church-based

electricity generating solar panel array in Westchester County was built thanks to

the support of New York State and Emanuel Lutheran Church. Walek & Associates

works with Emanuel’s public relations committee to increase awareness of the

More than 30 reporters and public relations professionals gathered for Flacks and Hacks,

an evening of drinks and discussion sponsored by Walek & Associates. Attendees included

Walek employees Chris Gillick, Michelle Lam, Stefan Prelog and Jon Schubin (all pictured above).

The event was organized by Mr. Prelog, along with AR magazine editor Josh Friedlander.

Account Executive Jon Schubin (pictured on left) appeared on the Discovery game

show Cash Cab.  Along with a friend, Jon won $2,700 by answering every question

correct except one.

 

Karen DeYoung and Rajiv Chandrasekaran from the Washington Post accepted the 2009

Bob Considine Award at the Overseas Press Club's annual awards dinner for best newspaper

or news service interpretation of international affairs. The award is sponsored by Walek & Associates.

Post editor Bob Woodward, who was unable to attend the ceremony, was also recognized.
